Jn 6,22-36

· (16j) Sin Ø Continuing in sin to avoid the light Ø Pretending God is not here Ø Having hidden motives – When you look into these verses, you see that the Jews were seeking Jesus, not because they wanted to be with Him, or because they wanted to hear Him preach, not even to see His miracles, but to eat more of that freshly baked bread. If it were up to the Jews, they would have simply followed Jesus around while he pulled bread out of the air at 8 AM and at 5 PM every day, and the what’s-there-to-eat problem would have been solved. It is unbelievable how it seemed they never internalized the fact that the bread they ate came from heaven. Their earthly needs were so engraved in their minds that they missed the point that they had just witnessed a miracle. All they wanted was more bread. They never saw it! Has anyone ever taken advantage of you? How would you feel if God gave you the ability to pull bread out of a basket and get a reaction like this from the people you served? Jesus never yelled at them or was exasperated with their unbelief, but simply spoke the word of God to them so that we would benefit from their lesson. What an incredible demonstration of patience on Jesus’ part.

Jn 6-24

· (176h) Works of the devil Ø The religion of witchcraft Ø Zeal without knowledge (Spirit w/o the word) Ø Resolution without relationship -- This verse goes with verse 66

Jn 6-25,26

· (241d) Kingdom of God Ø Opposition toward the kingdom of God Ø Hindering the kingdom Ø Obstacles in the way of the kingdom Ø Ask but don’t receive Ø Getting an answer that is not in your will -- Jesus answered them, but He didn’t answer their question. They asked Him, “When did you get here,” and His answer was, “You seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.” He answered their question, not the one on their minds, but the one in their hearts. They sought Jesus for a free lunch, saying, “What shall we do that we may work the works of God?” They were essentially asking Him, ‘If you’re not giving us another free meal, then teach us how to indefinitely pull food out of a basket.’ That’s all they wanted. Jesus tried to direct their minds to seek the food that endures to eternal life, but they didn’t hear a word of it. This is not what they wanted.
