Burdock root  

Health benefits: The plant that inspired the invention of Velcro, Burdock also prevents and treats cancer, Soothes a cough and cold, detoxifies the liver, eases aches and pains, Reduces blood pressure, Improves hair and Reduces wrinkles. Seeds and leaves can also be used as a poultice for skin issues, having antibacterial and antifungal properties.

 

 

               

 

Calendula  

Health benefits: Wound healing: skin irritations, such as Cradle cap and Diaper rash, good for digestion, cleanses the lymphatic system (swollen glands). 

 

 

                       

 

Chamomile  

Health benefits: Anti-inflammatory (arthritis), reduces anxiety and spasms, breaks a fever.

 

 

                       

 

Chickweed  

Health benefits: Treats dry, itchy skin and sooths mucus membranes, eye irritations, kidney and liver disorders, helps in weight loss, aids the lymphatic system.

 

 

       

 

Echinacea (Cone Flower)  

Health benefits: Cold and flu treatment and prevention (boosts immune system), Soar throat, Reduced Respiratory Infections, Anxiety Relief. It has antibacterial and antifungal properties.

 

 

 

Dandelion -- the whole plant is edible and medicinal  

Health benefits: The root detoxifies the liver (blood), aids in digestion, leaf is a good source of potassium, iron, calcium, vitamins and minerals. Dandelion milk treats warts. 

 

 

               

 

Elderberry  

Health benefits: Boosts the immune system; combine with Echinacea to fight colds, viral infections: flues, herpes and shingles, and counters upper respiratory infections. Turn into syrup, wine, jam, jellies and pies. flowers are edible.

 

 

       

 

Goldenrod

Health benefits: Analgesic, Antibiotic, Antifungal, Anti-histamine, Anti-inflammatory, Anxiety, Cancer, Digestion, Kidney problems, Liver cleansing, Respiratory, Wound healing.

 

 

               

 

Hawthorn  

Health benefits: This tree acts as a preventative and a cure for many heart related problems, such as: high and low blood pressure, heart disease, edema, angina and heart arrhythmia. Berries, leaves and flowers are edible and healthy, primarily the berries. They dilate arteries and veins, strengthen the heart muscle, regulate blood pressure, and maintain healthy cholesterol levels. It stabilizes collagen and helps in the repair of ligaments, tendons and muscles. It also lowers the tendency for bruising, and raises the mood against grief and sadness. 

 

 

                       

 

Lemon Balm  

Health benefits: Lemon Balm is mostly considered a brain tonic, strengthening memory and resisting depression. It is also good for the heart. Combined with Chamomile relieves spasms and thus calms the nerves and digestive system. It is a mild sedative, especially effective in cases of grief and depression (SAD). It also has anti-viral properties and acts as an antibiotic.

 

 

       

 

Licorice  

Health benefits: Its anti-inflammatory properties sooth the tender mucus membranes of a soar throat, bronchial tubes, stomach and bowel irritations, and treats gastric and peptic ulcers. It is also antibiotic and antiviral. It works on the endocrine gland system to ward off adrenal exhaustion, and it makes a good tea for women going through menopause, in that it stimulates estrogen production. 

 

 

               

 

Marsh Mallow  

Health benefits: Marsh Mallow is soothing to inflamed tissues of the lungs, stomach and bowel, but is most well known for its soothing action on the kidney and bladder (sooths, not cures, UTIs). A paste of Marsh Mallow and chamomile on the skin moisturizes dry, itchy and chapped skin on babies bums.

 

 

       

 

Mullein  

Health benefits: An anti-spasmodic, anti-septic and anti-inflammatory, mullein is the go-to herb for asthma, allergies and other related breathing problems. When drinking the tea, it leaves you with a sense of well-being, acting as a seditive. It also treats glandular imbalances. Make a poultice of it to effectively treat boils, swelling around the neck, bruises and insect bites. Use the flowers as a pain reliever. Mullein oil is often used to fight ear infections.

 

 

               

 

Peppermint  

Health benefits: Peppermint contains essential minerals, such as calcium, magnesium and potassium. It is best known as an oral and digestive medicine, relieving stomach cramps, nausea and gas, being antispasmodic, relaxing the muscles. It also works as a pain reliever for headaches, being soothing and comforting. Apply an infusion of honey and peppermint oil to a burn to fight infection and relieve pain.  

 

 

       

 

Plantain  

Health benefits: Plantain draws toxicity from the body in cases of blood poisoning, stimulating the liver. Use as a Poultice to draw infections from a wound, or make into a tea; soak a cloth and place it over the wound; it also helps stop the bleeding. You can use a hot tea-soaked cloth to draw out a sliver, adding a little salt to the wrap. Plantain treats bug bites and other skin irritations. It contains antioxidants, protein, starch and vitamins and works against hepatitis. It is also an analgesic, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory.

 

 

               

 

Red Clover  

Health benefits: Red clover is packed with vitamins. It cleanses the liver and lymphatic system, which cleanses the blood, and it is good for the skin. Use for respiratory infections and to prevent cancer and to retard the negative effects of Menopause. It is also anti-inflammatory and improves heart health.

 

 

       

 

Self Heal

Health benefits: Analgesic, anti-histamine, anti-microbial, contains vitamin K, cancer preventer, treats Crohn’s Disease, Colitis and Diabetes, sooths a sour stomach and soar throat, contains vitamin C and Thiamine.

 

 

                       

 

St John's Wort  

Health benefits: This herb is often used to treat depression, anxiety, stress, nerve damage and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). It is also used as an analgesic, antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory agent, working against such viruses as shingles and herpes. Using the flowers topically makes a good remedy for a wide array of skin problems, relieving pain and promoting tissue repair.

 

 

       

 

Stinging Nettles  

Health benefits: Nettle is rich in iron and calcium and is used as a tonic. It offers benefits to arthritis, and it works as an anti-histamine for allergies like hay fever. It is a friend of the liver and makes both men and women more fertile. Popular pharmaceuticals include it in PMS and menopause medicines, and the seeds are used for prostate issues. Be sure to wear gloves when harvesting this plant, and don't let the sting dissuade you from using it.

 

 

               

 

Thistle

Health benefits: Seeds are used to cleanse the Liver and for liver regeneration. Tea from the leaves and roots sooths digestion and eases diarrhea. 

 

 

 

Valerian  

Health benefits: Valerian is used for pain relief, anxiety, stress, tension, insomnia and as a muscle relaxant for various nervous disorders. It is also used for respiratory problems and acts as a tonic for the heart, for irregular heartbeat, often combined with hawthorn.

 

 

       

 

Wild (Prickly) Lettuce

Health benefits: Used as a pain reliever and sedative, reduces anxiety, anti-spasmodic and aids in digestion.

 

 

               

 

Yarrow

Health benefits: Anti-biotic, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-septic, anti-spasmodic, heals and slows bleeding for wounds and menstruation (vitamin K), aids in digestion, fever reducer, liver cleansing, sedative, sooths a sour stomach.
